Do you carry a lock with you? If so, where do you stash it and what kind of lock is it?

    i never leave the bike anywhere , if a thief wants it they will take it no matter what lock you use and £3k is a lot to lose!

    I have a D lock for my crap bike, but the road bike doesn't get left anywhere unless there's a Dcab stood next to it whilst I'm in a shop.

    I did wonder cos some of those locks are quite heavy. Our cycling clubs websites mentions tea shop stops.. now I wouldn';t want to leave the bike outside a tea shop lol

    Another one on the 'never use a lock' front. I don't get the idea of spending a load more on a bike that weighs less than a paper bag then lugging a big heavy steel lock around with it. As for tea rooms, I've left mine outside a couple, but these have been quiet village type places where me or the proprietor can keep an eye on it.

    Used to leave a lock at work but these days with the nicer bike I bring it up into the office with me. A lock might - just might - stop some pikey from nicking it, but it won't stop anyone from 'accidentally' knocking it over, or scratching it, or stumbling against it and bending the rims. I'd no more leave a decent road bike locked up anywhere than I'd leave a laptop chained to a lamp-post.
