By putting a 30mm clamp on a seat post sized for 29.8mm will it really make any difference to performance?
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

Generally the seat clamp that goes on the frame is substantially larger then the seat post it self as you have the metal of the frame to add to the post diameter.0

Yes, a 30.0 clamp will not fit a bike with a 29.8 seatpost. unless you meant seat tube.0

I'll Make it a bit clearer the frame speced a 29.8 seat clamp but the one that i was after the closest size was 30mmI'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

In that case the seatube is 29.8mm and you will be fine with the 30mm clamp.0

Performance wise... a 30mm clamp will be heavier so you might struggle on climbs. It might also affect your gearing slightly and cause your wheels to bend out of true.

I think that I might just get away with the weight issues But just to make sure I've ordered one in super light UNOBTANIUMI'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

It will be absolutely fine.
I am running a 30.0 Hope seatclamp on my 456 which is 29.8 with absolutely no problems0
