I've never had hydraulics on any of my bikes, just prefer the lever feel of the BB7. Set up properly, they're better than the average set of hydraulics. I do occasionally find my self looking at some though, just cos they're a bit more 'blingy' :oops:

Ahh, another bespoke hardtail! Good work on the red details - I like the bolt through the center of the cranks. Interesting viewpoint ref. hydraulic discs brakes though. I would definately reccommend trying some.

Agree with the BB7 statement.

My 10yr old set are still going well, just new pads now/again.

Thanks. I have tried hydraulics (almost everyone I know has some) but like I say the lever feel is what does it for me. They do feel a lot like v-brakes as you pull them, which is why I guess a lot of people don't like them, but once they bite they have more than enough power for me.

I've got to admit that the budget was a bit tight at first (bought the fork when I hadn't planned on needing one :roll: ) and I already had the BB7s lying around. If Merlin hadn't had such a tempting offer on forks that week, it could all have been different.

My old bike (which I still have as a singlespeed now) had 80mm of spaghetti-legged Manitous. I keep surprising myself how far I can push the new bike, that's when the brakes make themself useful

Yes I am. A lot.

I steadily upgraded the old one with nice bits thinking I would just transfer them to a new frame. Then I got this and decided that not a lot of the old components really fit well. The only thing that did make the change was the handlebar and crank arms.

Nice bike, BB7's are supposed to be really powerful, no point going to hydraulics if you like the lever feel. Personally i hate the lever feel of mechanical discs, my juicy 5's are a right pain in the arse though!

There's a guy I ride with occasionally with a 456 with I9 wheels, Chris King, Carbon Monkeylite, etc. Slight overkill imo.

I almost bought a BB5 for the rear since it was slightly cheaper. After I checked the internet and saw it used a smaller pad, had less adjustment and everyone said it was spongy, I thought better of it.

Did 60km yesterday and 40 today. I've never been happier with a bike

I'm sure I'll be saying that again in a couple of years though.
