My Look 585 Optimum

Here is my Look 585 Optimum (all correctly OCP’d) – don’t think we’ve had one here before so hope you like it! Bought for Sportive type riding and one of not so many standard frames that fits me well. I like it!!

The Campag Record mechs were a free upgrade due to shortages of 10 speed Centaur. A bit chuffed about that!

Originally had more sensible Elite bottle cages but they just didn’t look right so I had to get the hopelessly expensive Look ones!! (see the last picture for the wrong cages!)

Brakes set up European style for better cable runs and less cable rub…..

    I really like that. Normally a Time fanboy but Look frames are starting to turn my head recently, they look more elegant somehow, must be the colour scheme. White bar tape though surely?!

    I did consider it strongly. However, a) I didn't want the bike looking like a mid 80s Escort XR3i (too much white!) and b) having got back from my first ride on it, it still looks like new; not like a new bike with slightly second hand bar tape. I have white tape (of the old sort which actually cleans up ok) on my touring bike and even while I ride I get irritated about it grubbing up. Black looks sharp all the time!

    Still, at least white bar tape isn't completely insane. Anyone who buys white tyres needs certifying......!!

    If you keep the tape black then go for a black saddle, saddle and bar tape should always match!!

    Apart from that nice bike btw
    Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!

    Naaah, my tourer has had white tape, black saddle for 20 years and it's fine! People say that saddle and tape should match but people are wrong!

    As it happens, the saddle is white with a black stripe so it partly matches the tape. I considered the opposite but then thought the contrast of the mainly white saddle and carbon black seatpost would work better.

    I've never been impressed by Look, but that is a nice bike :wink:

    If you decide to try white tape, go for the Fizik Micro Tex, cleans easily...
    Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!

    I got them from Epic but they seem generally available - my local shop, All Terrain has them and so does Chain Reaction. BTW, I think in one of the other threads, someone said they'd had problems with bottle ejection on these cages. I would assume they were using small diameter bottles because, if anything, I find these cages very tight. I couldn't actually get the bottles that Epic gave me to fit in though they tell me I need to try harder! My Camelback podium does go in fine though. I would recommend the cages but at least half the value is in looks rather than function so you have to ask yourself if it is worth blowing half of £80 just for bottle cage beauty!
