Hi - me and a couple of mates from work are looking for suggestions/ideas for a 3 day cycling trip down the alps or somewhere in Europe. We are looking for a trip that is reasonably comfortable and we dont want to cart our luggage with us.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome
Thanks

Two good places are Bourg D'Oisans and Bourg St Maurice.

At Bourg D'Oisans, you've got the following dead handy :-
Alpe D'Huez, Col de la Sarenne, Col de Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon, Col du Lauteret, Col du Galibier, Les Deux Alpes, Col de la Morte, Col d'Ornon, La Berarde.

    At Bourg St Maurice there's:-
Col de L'Iseran (2770m !), Col de Petit St Bernard, Cormet de Roselend, La Plagne, Tignes, Les Arcs, Col du Pre, amongst others.

Have a look on www.grenoblecycling.com for a few more ideas of other areas in and around the Alps.

    Have a good time.

Yeah, I'd second the Bourg d'Oisans suggestion for ease of access and lots of good riding.

Also, consider the Dolomites too, which are really compact, and lots of great riding and scenery. You could happily pick Cortina or Canazei as a base and not run out of different loops to ride over 3 days. Easy-ish access from Verona or Treviso (1.5hr drive).

I can heartily recommend these 2 places as bases...

Bormio - which gives you easy access to the Stelvio, Umbrail, Gavia and Mortirolo passes as day rides from there.
    (see http://www.bikeit.eclipse.co.uk/bormio2008/index.htm )

Arabba - loads of day rides from there to take in things like the Passo Giau, Fedaia, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Campolongo, Valparola, Falzarego, Tre Cime de Lavaredo etc etc).
    (see http://www.bikeit.eclipse.co.uk/dolomites2009/index.htm )

Both offer loads of great day rides, and the hotels we stayed in were very good (from a cyclists point of view ;-)

    Cheers... Allan

Mmmm... Passo Giau.... Stunning and I remember the apricot tart at the cafe at the top being exceptionally delicious!

rhnb - you've put together a great website!

Thanks very much 'huuregeil'. I must admit it's nice to look back on some of those rides. And it's funny how your perception of 'pain' slowly ebbs away and you tend to forget what it felt like at the time ;-)

Passo Giau - definitely one of my favourites. Didn't have the apricot tart, I'll have to go back :-)

    Cheeers... Allan
