I am considering upgrading my frame however do not want to have to upgrade fork as well,
I am assuming that the 2009? specialized epic and HT sumie etc that sported the SID with a tapered headset pre Rock Shox offering this have just used a shim, as the crown was noticacably dwarfed and the same as the 1,1/8 or did they get a special run of tapered OEM steerer?

you can get step down headset cups, or step down headsets for oversized headtubes.0

eeerm take it apart to look?
There is only a need for a new steerer when fitting a 1 1/2" steerer to a 1 1/8" headtube, otherwise some reducer headset will work.0 -
