Tackling Rust..

What's the best way of tackling a rusty bike?
The spokes, rims and pedals are abit rusty, likewise the inside of the rotor and a few nuts and screws here and there.
Would an all purpose cleaner and wire wool sort majority of it? Also, is it safe to use a hose pipe directly onto the bike components?

if your spokes and are rusty then the wheels must have been very cost effective and heavy.
bolts a bit if grease on the heads stops rust.
rotors i would not worry to much about."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

After washing i always completely dry (as much as i can) with a cloth using different cloths for different parts of the bike. Then spray with GT85 on pedals and other mechanical parts, and as Nicklouse mentioned, I also use grease on some bolts here and there.Giant XTC SE 2006
