I have a gt chucker which i use for a lot of dirt jump and x country riding and general thrashing around i keep changing bottom bracket and crank cause of my aggresive riding i was wondering if its possible to change the chainset for a single speed 42t and then having a 9spd cassette and 9spd rear shifter and a short cage rear mech so i can still keep some gears and have less parts to get caught up in jumps and trails would it work or if i go single speed do i need to have no gears on the back any advice would be great

    yes it would work.

but you may want to reconsider the 42T front.
