Nice build! I like the choices of SRAM Force and the Eastons (I have a 2008 set and love them). It's an impressive weight to end up at too. Enjoy.

Nice bike - are you sure about that weight? If the Planet X frame is really that light I might have to get one!

Nice example of the planet -X beauties ps that is some stem stack you have there i cant help thinking tht it might be better having two over and two under mate ? Give you a lower riding position and more reach on the hoods

Yeah I was sort of surprised at the bike shop as well; the frame weighs in at (Small): ~1040g........My hanging scale echos that weight as well.

I was thinking of that myself but while doing some research I found many articles that said it wasn't recommended to have any spacers above the stem. Something on about the weakness or so I cant remember exactly. I feel a little high so I might just cut the forks some more. Thanks for the tip.
  • Pure porno rig that. Especially love the bar tape. Black and red is a wicked combo, that's a well conceived build mate.

But the saddle spoils it I reckon. Brutish looking and wrecks the svelte, languid lines of the frame. A smooth Arione or elegant and traditional SLR would look better. But your perch is the one thing you can't mess with I guess. Comfort cannot be sacrificed at the altar of beauty.

Mind me asking how much it cost all in...??

Not at all mate. Total cost is at about $2,500 for everything you see, everything was brand new nothing was bought used. Funny you mention it. The seat was the one thing that I bought last. I also have a selle italia that was too small in width and like riding with some kicking me in the ass, this one is unbelievably comfy. Just rode 3+ hours on it the other day and not even a sore ass to show for it. Hope this helps.
  • Is 2.5 a dollar or sterling price? Even in £££ that's a pretty good deal I reckon.

6.18 is fab, you must be pleased with that. Shocking thing is that wheels come even lighter, so you could easily be in the 5kg zone. Mad.

Yeah, with saddles, you just can't mess with them. 3+ hrs and no butt ache means it's the one for you.

Do you know if they do that bar tape in other combos? Take it it's Fizik? Blue and white would look mint on my bike. 8)

Lovely looking bike, pure weight weenie! Really love the red accents.

Think it would be worth trying Speed_King's advice, faster and 'more importantly' look even better 8)

The price is in dollars. Yeah in could imagine the bike any lighter, it already feels like I'm gliding.........the bar tape is fizik microtex dual and It comes in like 5 other colors but not sur what combos. I have a black/silver and this black/red but I'm not sure about any in white. Thankful for the comments.

My Medium size P-X weighs in at 1060g for the frame only, super light and nice and stiff.

Really interesting weight! My Lemond is sub 950g thought the fork is heavier than the PX fork.

Just waiting on my SRAM Force to arrive but I have practically all the same components in place (Mavics are within 50g or so).

So hoping to get a 6.5kg build in!

Really fancy a planet X , but with only 1 set of bottle bosses on the small frame its a bit of a let down :(

I can't imagine what websites you have been reading. But it's generally good practice to have a spacer above the stem, especially when using a carbon steerer.

The red/black dual microtex looks nasty but is comfy. I had some red/black and it looked awful so go some black/grey and looks loads more normal.

Just bought a Blue SL Pro Carbon, well impressed. Frame & forks, then kitted with Campagnolo 10 groupset, skeleton brakes 39-53. Rides lovely and smooth. I think the packaging weighed more than the contents! Highly recommend them to anyone who is considering the carbon 'leap'.

I guess that would be a matter of opinion and taste. I have the black and gray as well but preferred the red here. I'm not bike mechanic or anything but I read the following link: http://cdn.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/pdf/manuals/08_Fork_Installation_Guide_r2.pdf and a few others like it.

That's the first time I've seen advice like that, everyone else recommends a 5mm or 10mm spacer above the stem. Easton even supply a 10mm spacer with the fork for the job.

A 5mm spacer above the top of the stem prevents you clamping down on the very edge of the steerer. A 5mm spacer will also mean that the expander plug will still be at the right depth.

I agree with redd. Specialized make some weird decisions. I see their point that they want to keep the plug inside the stem, but a 5 or 10mm spacer above won't affect that, and is otherwise better for clamping support.

Redd and Balthazar thanks for the advice. I have lowered my bars and put a 10mm spacer above the stem; I actually like the ride feel even more.I was confused when reading articles like specialized's so thanks for clarifying this issue. I'm sure others will benefit from the info. Thanks again.

So why do pro-bikes hardly ever have a spacer above the stem?

    Nice build btw...
  • Rode a metric century today on some hairy roads and all I have to say that bike is a beast. Very happy with the Planet-X frame. Highly recommended.

Have you raised your seat or lowered your bars? Cause in the pics the hoods look higher than yer seat.
