Steerer tube length

If i cut my 09 revs steerer tube down to 180mm will i be drastically reducing there future resale value?
Is 180mm classed as quite short?

    Yes, it is.

    The 'average' headtube size is 100mm, but with stack height of headset cups, spacers etc etc it soon adds up.

    Is it a small frame perchance?

    If you can without ruining the handling of the bike, leave the steerer around 200mm, thats a good workable limit.

    You can always mess around with spacers etc, but you cant add more steerer ;)

    Its just a bit unsightly havin 20mm of spacers on top of my stem

    Its up to you entirely, if you're not too bothered about selling cut them to 180mm.

    You're narrowing down your target demographic to womens/small bikes come resale time though, although, not worth selling them at this stage anyway if you're just fitting them :wink:

    Merlin were selling some forks last week that had been 'mistakenly' cut down to 185 mm.

    They do that all the time without telling anyone, hence why they have loads sent back, because they wiont fit the majority of steerers.

    180mm is still quite short for the average bike. ;)

    something like the Rev's i'd say keep them around the 200mm mark as TBC said, will make them Infinately more sellable,

    20mm of spacers isnt bad at all! i think mine has 17.5mm under and 20mm ontop, on the basis that at that length they'll be able to fit an awful lot of frames IF i decide to sell them on! :wink: does mean you can also adjust the height of the stem to get it right, if the forks are longer travel than previous then can alter the geo a bit,
