OK trying to figure the forks on my daughters 'new' Scott, we believe they were the originals fitted to the bike which is a 2004 we are told (frame has been painted so figuring year is kind of hard!)

It is air sprunf with the valve on the top of the right hand stantion, it has rebound adjust also under the right hand.

The left hand has a cap over with adjust written on it and +/- marks on the top of the left leg, however winding this adjuster in and out has little effect.

It is labelled as 'EXR supra'.

Photo's to follow, but has anyone any suggestions, does it perhaps need the left hand leg 'filling' with oil (I assume its to adjust compression damping?), we've spent ages on the Marzocchi website but
1/ can't find a manual for an EXR form that matches what we have in every respect
2/ Can't fnd any referance to it needing filling with oil

Thanks Nick, I'd found that manual, but that one isn't meant to have any adjustment in the left hand leg whereas the forks are labelled as having some, also no description about filling it with oil (even though in the faults it tells you to do it!)

your description of the adjuster on the left sounds very much like the pre load adjuster on my bomber 33s (coil).

These forks, IIRC, you could drop a coil spring in and new top cap. Looks like it has one air spring, one coil spring.

If that is the case, the preload dial should be wound off to minimum, then simply use the air valve to tune sag.

Is the preload on the left set by the outer nut or the inner allen key? We've been turning the allen key, or is that just the oil filler hole?

    neither.

    got the pics yet.

the black plastic adjuster sits on a bar that is internally threaded.2mmish screw sized and that is what should be turned.

14 revs IIRC start to stop.

Left hand you can see the 'adjust' logo on, but is that the big nut or the allen key insert (which seems to do nothing despite winding a long way in and out!)

The manual mentions oil fill as a potential issue in the fault finding, but not how/where to fill it!

The left leg just has a bolt to fix the inner, the right leg has the rebound adjuster (well some damping adjuster!) as mentioned in first post, small palstic knob driving a thinn shaft up throught the fixing.

well it sounds like you have 2 forks.

the right leg is the original Air preload coil sprung or air sprung version and someone has added a coil set up on the other side.

have a look at the EXR 2002 manuals for how to get in and service them.

OK Nick, that's not such good news although I'm sure we will cope as all complete the bike has only cost about £105 for a spec that should have cost about £250!
