Looking at getting a dirt jump bike, need advice please.

Hi there.

I am looking to get a dirt jump bike for obviously dirt jumping. I have a budget of about £400. I have only just starting jumping. These are the bikes I have been looking at so far

Front suspension and single speed or 7-8 speed are a must.

If you have any other suggestions I'd be glad to take a look.

    the DMR hands down, with the RST forks on the diamondack you would be seeing yourself shelling out another few hundred fairly quickly as you progress

    Thank you very much for the advice. I am looking at ordering it by tomorrow so hopefully by next week I can have it up and running.

    If you are doing Mail order from winstanleys expect it to take a while.

    Well worth a look, bomb proof frame and DJ1 forks, the rest of the kit is alright too :)

    And jejames were about a week when I got my STP0.

    So you reckon the giant is a better choice than the DMR?

    How much do jejames charge for delivery?

    Just need clarification that is definitly the better option as I will be ordering it in a couple of hours or so.

    If you want a quick answer, I say get the Giant, but I'm biased owning one myself.

    They are quite different.

    The DMR is pure dirt jumper, 24" rims, single speed. Like a big BMX.

    The Giant is a capable dirt jumper, but is more of an all rounder.
    Put the seat up, ride it round on the trails, drop the seat and go dirt jumping. Build it up with lighter parts and take it 4x racing.
    Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.

    I never thought it would be such a hard decision. Becuase I am mainly going to be dirt jumping, but i KNOW i will be doing the odd trails here or there. What kind of effect does constant dirt jumping have on gears?

    no effect on the gears but a few crashes and bails and you will likely damage your mech which will ruin shifting and cause your chain to skip, not what you want running into a jump. also gears arnt really needed when riding jumps as you will never be putting in more than enough pedal strokes to get you up to speed. and weight saving if thats your thing.
