Can't get Tyres on my Rims...

I know this is pretty pathetic, so sorry for that... :oops:

I'm converting my old MB in to a commuter, bought some Continental Sport Contact Reflex Tyres (26x1.3) to improve ability on the road but I just can't get them on to my rims (Mavic 717).

I even decided to risk a tube and tried levering them on without any luck.

Am I doing something stupid? Are these tyres designed for slimmer rims?

    make sure you are getting the beads into the well of the rim.

    should go on OK.

    Copius amounts of soapy water works for me..............great for fitting stubborn tyres as well !! :D

    hot water would help as would putting them on a radiator.

    It may be obvious but.. fit one bead at a time.. and as mentioned make sure the bead sits in the well of the rim for less tension..

    I've got similar Conti Sport Contact tyres on my hybrid (700c x 28 ) and they're a pig to get on, I managed eventually to get them on at home but the thought of messing about fixing a puncture out on the road made me go out and buy one of these

    I'm glad someone else has had this problem... I don't feel quite so... :oops:

    I haven't had chance to have another go at the tyres, but I'm liking the look of that tool, will get one ordered. Thanks very much!
