Elbow Guards...

had a nasty off a while back (not hugely bad... but broke a few ribs, and hurt a shoulder... )
am not buying armour... so i can try and prevent more injuries of the same scale...
does any one have any advice on which Elbow pads / guards would be worth the buck?
I have bought a set of Kyle Strait Knee Guards, that are fine for my needs... my accident was a 2' Jump gone wrong...
i ride mostly all mountain. so dont want too much heavy DH kit to weigh me down.
Cheers

I have some Race Face Zero lightweight pads, they fit really well and don't move about when riding, they also fit easily under long sleeves.0

I use 661 race forearm gaurds
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24935
I use them with 661 Kyle Strait knee pads and they are great. Don't shift all day long and provide very good protection. I "tested" them in a similar way to you.
Went over the bars on a small jump at about 30mph  What makes it worse was that it was on a blue graded route
Had a sore elbow/shoulder for a few weeks after but all was good apart from my dignity.0 -

You're using kyle strait knee pads on your arms, alongside some forearm guards??0 -

Ohhhhhh..... Is that why I get some really funny looks0 -
I can't recommend these too highly, they're superb...

Love mine. They're quite big, so very obvious/visible but that's the clever part- I have a set of 661 Chicken Wings which are compact and fit easily under most tops, and aren't very visibly obvious, but because they made them so small they're stiff and they need a lot of material and tight straps to stay in place.
Because the POCs are pretty big, it takes much less to keep them in place so 2 lightweight straps and a thin "sock" keeps them perfectly in place, and the articulation's fantastic so you have total freedom of movement, but they're very comfy and not too hot either.
I mucked around a lot trying to find the perfect elbow pads but these I think are it.Uncompromising extremist0 -
I got the brand-x ones from crc, tried a few different brands on in the shop and they were the comfiest for me.

The fact they were half the price of the other brands was a bonus too.
The raceface were probably the worst, for some weird reason, they put a bunch of sewn in labels right on a bit which will rub on your skin! They literally couldn't have but them in a worse position.0 -

I was looking at them...
as i am tall and skinny im not sure the best size to opt for?
i would guess small... (as the circumfrence of my arm isnt large) but the length of my arm is?
suggestions?www.settingascene.com - MTBing in Wilts and the southwest, join up for info and ride details.0 -
definately not small if you are tall - either medium or large I would think. If the pads end up being too small, the ellbow protector won't sit right and the whole thing will end up sliding down everytime you bend your arm.0

I just bought a pair of these. Fell off a 5-6ft high bit of north shore onto some roots after having them on for about 15 minutes! They stayed in place and my arm still works so I guess they did their job too!
I wore them all day and it didn't really notice them at all. I've used quite a bit of armour over the years, even if these were double the price I would still be happy with them.0 -
I have a set of the 661 veggies

Not tested them out yet... hope I never have to. But the comfort and fit is great. Along with the Kyle Strait knee pads I hardly notice I'm wearing them.Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

Well I am quite tall but I ain't popeye but I got the large. If they slip, they hang onto your wrist so they won't slip any further and they definatly won't slip up your arm in a crash. Best thing to do is to try them on at the LBS0
