I have come into a bit of money (ok only about 172 quid but it's something) which I am going to put aside towards a cyclo cross bike (Yes put that cloak on standby!) Thr problem is which one.
So far I have the option of a Focus Mares 2010 for about £750 and a Kona Jake 2010 for £770, but what other decent cyclo cross bikes are out there for about that price range?
It is intended to be for my commute which I want to up to a least three times a week (75% of my shifts) so it needs to be a sturdy beast

Well, there is the Specialized Tricross Sport. A bit more than mid £750s, but close.0

I've recently started following Dolan Bikes on twitter. They do one, starting from just over £500 depending on how it's finished.

Speaking of Cyclocross bikes and because I don't want to start a new thread. Anybody able to identify this frame for me? The advert says it's a Cad3 but ti doesn't look like one from my meager internet searchings.

went along to my LBS today to see what they have on offer cyclocross wise. They have pretty much everything which makes the choices a little more difficult.
However they did come up with an option which in all will cost about £850. A built from the ground up on a Giant cyclocross frame bike which will allow me to pick and choose my components and group set according to my needs and budget at the time.

I don't think it's a CAAD3, the race oriented bikes always have a much shorter rear triangle than that, for fast handling. That looks more like a touring frame, loads of room for panniers.
Edit: I take it back, it may well be a 1998 Cannondale CAAD3 Cyclocross, see linky...

I had a look at one of these in evans, not sure that you can remove that peak with taking out the whole liner. Might not matter to you, but may be worth thinking about. Can you get to an Evans to look at it in person?
Also worth noting with Bern, the majority of the "helmets" they sell use a substance called Brock foam and are not actually certified for cycling or snowsports. They sell them as "hardhats".
they also do a lot of their helmets in an EPS foam version that is fully certified.
Be careful which one you are buying.
Personally I think it is f*cking scandalous that they are flogging uncertified safety equipment.Not climber, not sprinter, not rouleur0 -
Thanks Elephant. Probably not worth the 600 quid asking price then. Dagnammit the choice of cheap bike in Oslo is dire. All I want is a cheap pub bike that'll also do the 7 mile commute. And it's only as a stand in till I get my Peregrine built. Norway you really do suck sometimes.0

Hmmm... does sound a bit rich for it, to be honest. Could you not travel somewhere a bit more bikey to go shopping?0
