My saddle arrived today but there's no mention about it being pre-treated or how to look after it.

None needed. It is not a leather saddle only leather covered. That is not to say that a light coating of Proofide applied once a year will do any harm if it keeps you happy.

For about 20 years I used Rolls and never did anything to them. Now I have Brooks and Rolls in about a 50:50 split across my machines, and still do nothing to the Rolls.

    Thanks for the information.
How have they been when it rained, from what you say they were pre-treated and the rain didn't sink in?

Under the leather is a layer of foam. I don't use them much these days, now prefering Brooks for distance riding, but I don't remember them oozing water. I have a Rolls on a hack bike that sat in the open in a downpour for a few hours a couple of days ago which caused no problems at all.

I've got a Rolls that's been in use for over 10yrs/12k miles. Never did much of anything to it but clean it with a damp cloth. I'm more concerned with the leather drying out from the sunlight than the wet when it's sitting at a bike rack so about 3 yrs ago I started using some mink oil that I have laying around. The mink oil helps the water bead off a little and doesn't seem to have any ill effects. I just bought a new Rolls for another bike and the leather on the old one, aside from being worn smooth in spots, doesn't look too much different than the new one and feels ever so slightly less cushy that it's barely noticable.

Thanks, yes i'll probably keep on eye on it for drying out if we ever have a hot summer. I've got proofide due to my Brooks etc. My Rolls is the smooth white version.
