why cant chainrings just be made round.....

just swapped out my rear cog for a nice little 13tooth Dura-ace one. I am assuming this is nice and round. but my chain ring is not so round...

got the chain tension on the fixed nice and tight. spun the wheel and it felt horrid. rotated it slow and felt the tight patch I say tight but there was NO movement in the chain even using my hand and squeezing the chain :? loosen it off again so its ok there then its a bit loose when the wheel gets to another part of the ring :?

So why cant chain rings be made round in the first place....

might have to use this as an excuse to get a new 48tooth chain ring or maybe even a 50/52 :P

Highly unlikely to be the chainring. Chains do not wear evenly, you will get tight spots and it is at the tightest part that tension should be adjusted.

Ask any motorcyclist and they will confirm what I said.
