Where do they go?

I've lost another damn pair of sunglasses, AND a pair of clear ones. What happens to these things? Is there some sort of weird bird at the bottom of my garden building an elaborate impact-resistant nest? Are tramps stealing them and boiling them down for soup? Do they just evaporate completely after a month?
I'm going to trap the sunglasses fairy. I'll leave a pair under a box propped up on a stick, and when the little **** comes down, pow, fairy in a box. Then I'll stun him with a 5 iron, and torture the location of his sunglasses castle out of him, then we'll all go round teamhanded and get them back. Who's with me?
