bikes with non replaceable rear hanger ?

what happens if you crashed a carbon bike with a non replaceable rear hanger ? is that it knackered or are there ways round it ? or does rear hanger just stop the rear derailleur from bending ?

    Depends on the level of damage, soetimes they can be repaired - worst case scenario is a trashed frame . IME replaceable hanger isn't fail-safe - I've seen frames with replaceable rear hangers trashed in a crash. If you're worried, go for a steel or titanium frame.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Some manufacturers (e.g. Trek) will replace it at the factory.
  • You can get a rear mech mounting bolt which will snap on impact without (hopefully) damaging he frame. Get a couple from your LBS (keep one in the pack on the bike in case you have a crash and need to replace it when out on a ride).
