Bib Tights

Am I right in thinking that unpadded Bib Tights with normal shorts underneath are more comfortable than Bib shorts with an integral pad?

Possibly, I've not tried. My DHB bib tights could definitely use more padding though0

Even if not as/more comfortable, unpadded bib tights plus a pair of normal padded bib shorts are a more versatile combination.
ie. You can change your shorts daily as normal, while the 'over-tights' can go a few days between washes (if not wet/muddy). Also if you're out on a ride that starts cold, then later warms, you can remove your tights & ride in your shorts.Cycling weakly0 -
for me bibs are great as i dont have a waist band that can dig in. So useing non bib shorts under unpadded bib longs sounds counter productive to me. ( I have never tried tbh and dont think i ever will )Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas

I used to wear shorts with tights over them, and the two waistbands would nearly cut me in half. Bib everything for me now; v. comfy. DHB Merstons with pad for winter. Toasty0

It might not be as comfortable. There's more material there so the chamois might not be able to fit into the places it used to fit into... If you see what I mean... Therefore you might loose some padding in certain areas where you would have had padding with a thinner material.
Just a theory, might not be true at all!0 -
I prefer a pair of bibtights with a pad. Much more comfy IMO.0

I use padded bib shorts + padded bib tights, it's more comfortable than just one chamois.0

Shorts under bib tights may not as comfortable as padded bibtights but it adds another layer of warmth.0

i wear dhb shorts and dhb bibs with padding, more the better for me0

A cheap(ish) pair of shorts plus a cheap(ish) pair of tights works for me. The more layers/padding the better for the overweight among us.The older I get the faster I was0

Either:
padded bib shorts (http://www.gbcycles.co.uk/eshop.asp?wci=product&wce=SHBSF08TOUR01&desc=SPORTFUL+TOUR+BIBSHORTS / http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?PartnerID=79&ModelID=32308) on their own;
padded bib tights (http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=22077) on their own; or
padded waist shorts (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/pearl-izumi/quest-shorts-ec002416) on their own.
I haven't had any problems so far. The waist shorts are usually reserved for mountain biking where I tend to be hunched over the bars less. I've combined padded waist shorts with Nike running tights before when stuff's been in the wash and I've been desperate!

Recently it's been so cold I've been using padded bib shorts teamed up with knee warmers and ski socks, all underneath non-padded fleecey bib tights.
When the weather's warmer, I tend to use just bib tights, possibly with knee warmers underneath.
Then I've got bib 3/4s which are frankly a revelation in versatility - and then there's the trusty bib-shorts with knee warmers you can remove for chilly starts to summer mornings - when we get there, of course!
FWIW - I haven't worn anything on my bottom half without the bib-part since about 2005.Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0
