OK. I don't use my cycle computer on the commute, but it's 7 miles a day, 5 days a week, 48 weeks of the year, minus the odd day off sick or on the bus.

    Apart from that:

    Rides: 14

Mileage: 1001 (9 short of last year - bah)
Average speed of 2009: not telling. too slow.
Slowest ride of 2009: 71 miles at 11.9mph avg. I was doing brilliantly until the final 30 hilly miles into what had become a gale force headwind. I'm only including this cos I'm chuffed I stuck with it and finished the ride
Top speed of 2009: 45.3mph (bombing down the hill to Nercwys in N Wales - whee!)

Longest ride: 104 miles (12 miles short of 2008's longest but I was utterly drained)
Avg ride distance: 71.5 miles (quite pleased with that)
Most climbing in one ride: 1897m (in 72 miles round the northern Peak District)

Longest gap between rides: 2 months  between Oct and Dec. Still commuted by bike in this time but couldn't get a free weekend to go on a ride

Cafe stops: 1 per ride. Sometimes 2.
    Punctures: Nil.
    Crashes: Nil.

How have you worked out average ride distance?

second half of 2009 has been crfap for me and messed the whole year up.

    All I know is

    Longest ride: 175 miles
Fastest ride over 100 miles - 123 miles to filey, ended up 19.1mph door to door, allthough 165 miles very very hilly at 18.5mph was good.
    Fastest ride under 100 miles - 70 miles @ 20mph
Slowest solo ride - 62 miles with nearly 5000ft of ascent, 16mph avg.
total amount for 2009 - don't know, I screwed it up, GPS has car rides, train rides into that aswell, so it's inaccurate, probably around 9000 though.

    Crashes - 0
    Near misses - 3 or 4.

I have it on a spreadsheet so it's easy, but you can just do Total Mileage / No. of rides

Impressive stuff, a few (100) of us on commuting kept a record this year, take a look here http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12620363

and here for the full figures http://www.startfarm.co.uk/aspStats/

Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
  • Wow, all the info you guys record has just inspired me to make my own Excel file for 2010! :) All I know is that I did approximately 3500 since I started in June.

Have you included turbo/roller sessions? Because I cant see how average speed on a roller/turbo (but especially roller) can compare to being on the road. It's just I intend to do a lot or roller sessions over the next couple of months and want to be able to include data from them...
  • Hours spent flirting with the waitresses at the local cafe instead of riding: 200+hours.

Seriously, what is it with cyclists and stats. I'm sure I'd enjoy my rides more if I ignored the distance/speed/average speed/time etc...... but I just can't

Yeah, once I get a powertap, it'll get worse. Although, I don't think i'll bother counting distance when I get that, just power and time.

    guv001 -

I barely look at distance at all these days. Just time. I will look at the distance, but I can usually tell how hard a ride is just by how long i've been out and how hard I went during that time.

You can be on a flat road with a tailwind and the kilometers will fly by. In the mountains, you can be going for hours before they start to add up to anything significant, yet you're probably killing yourself a lot more.

Do you have an indoor trainer/rollers? If so, you'll probably agree that, when using them, effort and time are more important things to worry about, compared to the distance.
