Assos Bobbling Already

So far I have only worn my Assos LL winter tights a handful of times and a small patch of bobbling has appeared on the back side. Needless to say I am NOT impressed. I wash in the machine on a specialised sport setting and always wash them inside out.

Any others experienced this problem?

    My bib tights bobbled....

It was due to my riding style, and catching the saddle bag. One patch on the inside of one leg. Was more down to bike set up and saddle.

Work out where, and then you can work out why. It wont be the shorts... it will be due to how you have things set, angles etc. If you find what is rubbing, change the bike before the shorts.

Worth sending the shorts back to be replaced, but that wont fix it!

I have some assos shorts that have had a similar problem but on the inner leg, there is no obvious place it is coming from and I have not had it with cheaper shorts. Saved up for ages for them not sure what it could be.

  • i spoke to an assos rep about this a while back and he told me the shorts are designed for contact with hairless skin - with the repetitive friction of pedaling, hairs will roughen the fibres in the shorts causing them, when soaked in water, to bobble.

only solution is to remove all thigh, arse and groinal hair.

hmmm, sounds like BS, I think the bobbling is on the outside of the shorts. My g/f has the Uma bib shorts and they are bobbling around the backside (on the outside) and her ar*e isn't very hairy.

The strap on the bib has started to detach so they will be having a trip to Switzerland, and maybe Assos can fix the bobbling too. Its a bit of a shame having spent well over £300 on two pairs of bib shorts/tights. I don't have these problems as I can only afford dhb

Yep, I had the same problem. My airblock tights wore through directly where they come into contact with the saddle after only a couple of months use. I sent them back to the importers via the shop that supplied them, who in turn sent them back to assos in switzerland. They said that it must have been due to the type of saddle I was using or because they were catching on a saddle bag. Unfortunately, I don't use a saddle bag and I asked them why my previous Alexa bibtights had not experienced the same problem especially when I had used them for several years.

Assos 'generously' offered to replace them for 50% of the RRP, which I refused point blank. After much discussion between myself and the customer service rep at Assos they relented and sent me a new pair. I didn't want to take the risk again so I sold them and bought some Endura Thermolite's which have been faultless.
  • Did you wash them with velcro in the machine? Most common of bobbling on lycra product in my experience.

I've used assos stuff for year, and the only bobbling on any of my kit has been caused by Velcro (saddle bag on shorts and chinstrap thing on helmet on collar of jacket), damage wasn't a problem though.

I had a problem with stiching on a brand new pair of Assos shorts. Whilst Ribble were extremely UN-HELPFUL I contacted Yellow who are the Assos UK agents who exchanged them without quibble!

The bobbling is on the outside so this cannot be down to me having a hairy ass or not  Although i do shave most of the time

It is on the underside of where the actual pad is. As this is the area that comes directly into contact with the saddle i am really NOT pleased.

I only ever wash it inside out with my wool base layer, skull cap and socks. NO velcro whatsoever has come into contact with it.

I will monitor it for my next couple of rides. If it gets worse it will be sent back to wiggle for a replacement. My Giodorna and DHB bibs have lasted much longer than this with no bobbling.

    Damn it!!!!!!

    Just investigated further.

My saddle has a some embroidery along the side of the nose of the saddle :x It has been worn down and matches the location of the bobbling on my tights

So obviously a new saddle needed. Hopefully a couple of rides on this saddle before i get a new saddle won't do too much more damage.

Ah, you don't have one of those green shamrock embroided saddles do you. They were well know for this, they were all recalled by the manufacturer - good luck with it, I think the company has now closed down!
