ace looking, what happened to the carbon frame?
  • the alloy drop out between seat stay and chainstay collapsed!

    Brokenbike3.jpg

no one local was interested in making one as its a fair bit of work, so have the frame hanging up in the shed! kinda souvaneer!

been out for a quick test ride today and have to say its a cracking bike! i'd go as far as to say its a better ride than the carbon frame! Love it!!

on the way down through some really good techy sections

i like cotic. they build nice bikes like yours...
  • Blister, no idea on exact weight, but i'd guess something arounf the 23-24lbish area?? its not heavy thats for sure!! will ask the lbs if they have any scales when down next!

Rame, gotta admit, the frame had been hangiong on the wall for a while, i'd been admiring it for a long time!! the lad of the lbs owner has one the same built up very nicely (you can when you own the place lol!) and looked the Nuts!
    just so pleased with it!!

Is it the new orange colourway? hard to tell from the pics...

Nice bike by the way, always fancied a soul but i've never liked the colours they came in...until the orange one :)

but... I'd be very very surprised if it's below 25lb though looking at the specs, the soul is one of the lighter steel frames around but the wheels you've got on there aren't the lightest around.

I'd put my money on between 25 and 26lb

 just read "buliders tea' colour at the top, sorry
  • Haha! In the flesh its actually a nice colour! Do like the orange one but as this is what they had at the lbs and the deal was too good I wasn't going to complain!!
I'll try and work out the weights of it all if I can find them, intreraged now though haha! Wheels are 2kg for the pair, not the lightest I know, but then nor am I! the freerides were only 100g heavier than the XC so made sense for me!
Its only 1/2lb heavier than my old carbon bike but never got that weighed lol! (All the bits were on that frame too! )

Is quite nice when people ask what colour is it though, yup its the colour of a cup of tea!

  • ravey, search the net today for the weights of all the bits (including ther bottle cage!) and managed to find all the bits!
total weight came out as 11.272kg or 24.8lb.
so not far of my guess of 23-24ish, but will still see if i can get it weighed at the lbs as often bits are more/less than quoted so would be nice to see!

i suspect if i was to go mad and spend a fair wad of cash i may be able to squeeze an extra lb/ lb1/2ish of the weight but not a lot more, not that i mind as love it how it is! 8) !

Ah quoted weights...When you get it on the scales it will be over 25lb i bet you

Its a great bike mate and as you say weight doesn't really matter, its how they ride that counts..

I'd have my inbred over a featherweight alloy bike anyday

I love the jockey wheels, I've ordered some for my new road bike  shouldnt say that in here should I....
  • haha! your allowed on the basis your an mtb'er at heart!
yeah i would suspect it'll ber a bit more, then when i get on it'll go upo by close to 215lb's so the odd bit extra wont really matter hahahah! as you said, its the way it rides that matters and i love it! something so good about a direct snappy hardtail, my old fs bike would always be a gear lower everywhere as seemed so much got soaked up by the suss, just felt so good to be back on a HT!! proper test on the weekend with the club, good decent ride with all manor of terrain! 8)

i was lucky that i got the jockeys when they were £15 a pair for non ceramic ones, couldnt justify the ceramic ones then, within a month they almost doubled in price!
had to have them though as was on the old carbon bike witht he gold chain!! 8)
there is an ebay seller that has them for £8 each i think ot is, but under cnc not kcnc!

  • What does it ride like with the shorter forks? I like the look of them but was concerned my 100mm Rebas wouldn't work too well on it (I wouldn't be able to afford new forks just yet). I saw the What MTB review and that was on 100mm Magura's and they said it was good.
  • on the old Uber flexy sid's its a Cracking ride! Really good, responsive etc. Very good Xc bike in 100mm form, a real joy to ride!
from what i have heard it works just aswell on longer travel forks, by going to 130's you drop an degree on the head tube angle,
but is a good bike in 100mm, if your thinking about it then all i can say is do it!!!
shame you ra good few hundred miles away as otherwise you could borrom mine for the local loop!!

    newforksandrotor7.jpg

have also upped the rear to 180mm disc to help with the stopping of fatty riderness! and have a replacement seatpost from my old slightly besnt one! :D

hoping to get out for a test ride tomorrow as need to fine tune the pressures and rebound/compressions etc. but Love It!! hahahah! but thats it for now me thinks!!!! apart from maybe some coloured Bolts!

Nice to see it being used as a mountain bike should be :-)
  • a quick update on two new bits!!!!
decided to give time pedals a crack as my candy's were slowly wearing out, and that i can use the same cleats in both cb's and time! (but not time in cb's or i'd never get out the pedals haha!) and heard good things of the,m so thoguht, why not!! and also finally bit the bullet and got a new front mech! the old Xt one was form 2002!!!
    utf-8BSU1HMDAwNTUtMjAxMDA3MTYtMTAyM.jpg

got some jagwire switch braided gear cables on order so i can use the outers to match the braided brake cables, - very tarty but it is me!:wink::wink:
then only the shifters to think about! (well, already got them planned!!) but they wouild finish off the bike completely then!  could be them or tax the car!!! know what i'd prefer to do!!!!
