First Frost

The crunch of the first ice beneath your tyres,
Skies pale pink and blue like a Headington wannabes Polo shirt,
That lovely S bend now slickly suicidal
Avoiding ice, riding the steep curve of the camber,
Pendletons' Beijing banking
Beard frozen, screaming pain, wrong bloody gloves!

    It's certainly brisk out there!

Lovely morning though, much nicer than yesterdays drizzle and gusting winds, and I fear a lot better than tomorrows scheduled rain :?

Is this some kind of metaphor I am not familiar with.......?

  • Certianly looks lovely out there!

    Dilemma of the day...
Do I cycle 5 miles to then test ride the Tricross?
Do I drive down, so I could then bring home the new steed, if all goes well?

Swaying towards the latter, due to excitement! :D

Just looked outa my window, can see ice around, thinking of doing a ride today, bet the roads will be damp, and all that grit, I'm going to have to swiftly get my bike cleaned!!!

It's funny, first frost on 1st of december, maybe we'll get a white christmas? It certainly feels like christmas out there already :)

Couldn't face de-icing the car this morning.
not with brilliant skies signifying the first dry day since October I think.
    Ignored sniffles and MTFUed

very glad I did, it's beautiful out there.
Only sad I had to stop for work

    Lovely ride this morning!

Donned football socks to cover my legs below my MTB shorts & all my overpriced bike clothing did its job :D

Running shoes need to be replaced asap though, lovely draft to the toes!

    Hi,
Was under -5 in the garden this morning before I set out. Dug my warmer gloves and insulated hat out of the loft before I left (don't want a repeat of last years Frost-Nip!).

Glorious sunrise- all pink & orange. Doesn't bode well for later, though, rain forecast this afternoon.

    Cheers,
    W.

Looked out this morning to the gardens covered in frost and heard the sounds of drivers scraping their windscreens. Briefly wondered whether today was the first bibtights day but assumed it would be warmer once into and beyond putney. It was. It was also a gloriously sunny morning :D

Severe sniffles meant another day in the car for me, I really wanted to ride but cold air+asthma+hacking cough doesn't equal a nice 20 mile ride to work.

  • Could it be that, similar to summer, winter is now just 1 day per year and that was it?

We only ever seem to get one hot day sometime in May so maybe we're only going to get one cold day in December.

The rest of the year will now be a bland type of wet and dull due to climate change.

  • Pedants Corner November still to come but a drier than average year overall. Still there are sun dried tomatoes in supermarkets so we must be in the Med not an island in the north Atlantic

I'm glad I had the larger size shoes that Attica kindly sold me last week, but even with 2 pairs of socks my toes remained like little ice cubes all day!

It was good to test out the cold weather clothing though and every other part of me was perfectly warm enough for the nearly 2 hrs it took me to cycle in to work yesterday.

  • ... wrong bloody gloves!

Snap. Full fingers but barely good enough even for mid-season. Back to normality today, standing water for half the ride home and 8degrees. Give me that searing cold that goes right through the eyeballs, I love it. Then thoughts will turn to a new pair of Sealskinz or something similarly indulgent.
