Garmin 705 Mapping Question

I've been using my Edge 705 with the road mapping for most of the year and am really happy with it. I've recently seen some downloadable off-road routes and was wondering whether I could use those routes with my road mapping software (on my MTB of course). I'm guessing it would work in terms of telling me when to turn left or right but just wouldn't show me any paths or trails.

Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

I'm a roadie 95% of the time and only an occasional MTBer so don't really want to fork out for off-road mapping. Yeah, I know, I'm a tight wad!!

  • As long as you can obtain your routes in gpx format, you will be able to do this . As you surmise, you will not get turn by turn direction - EXCEPT where the route coincides with the map detail
