    I haven't done this my self but have read about it on other torch and lighting forums. the copper tube method is a tried and tested method should work fine.

    If you're using two LEDs use one with a tight focused beam for long range throw and use one with a slightly less focused beam for more peripheral view.

    I've done it before.

    Your current idea sounds good - you'll definately be seen by others, but I've found that if the light is so you can see the road, you have to go really really bright. :shock:
