Just looking at getting into some night riding so probably won't be going to fast to start with and will probably be doing more evening into night than going out in darkness. (Hope that made sense  ) So will a Hope vision 1 LED be powerful enough and has anyone had experience of one?

Thanks a lot,

Matt

Not really. 200 lumens or so in a fairly narrow beam won't do it for most.

Have you read the What Lights thread?

Many cheaper and better lights than that.

P7 emitter.. Is that how you spell it..?

Anyway, you can get about 500 proper lumin from what I read, even though it claims 900, .. Maybe 900 for 5 min.

But anyway, super cheap and super bright.

a P7 torch produces well over 1000 lux at 5 meters - according to my light meter. Awesome stuff!

Yes - it is all on the first page in that thread. The batteries are 18650 cells, which you can recharge. The torch on max lasts about an 1hour, and 3 hours on medium.

Or for £50 buy the MagicShine lamp.

The Hope 1 is a great light which I use on night rides but to get the best from it you will need a helmet light too.
I came from a set of halogen Cateye lights so the Hope is noticably better.
I have one but I am looking at a pair of P7's with a C1 on the helmet.
    I ride therefore I am

The torch is a bare unit, so needs some additions like the mounts, cells, charger.

Or get it all in one with a bigger battery pack:

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"

The bight light looks great, one last thing- can you open up the holder to change the cells in inside halfway through a ride?

I've noticed my torch will start to run down, but is still useable after about 90 minutes.
However, the batteries are so small that you can carry plenty of spares.

The Vision 1 is a good light but wildly overpriced esp. this time of year. It's not a torch but you pay a premium for the fixings and bling casing which you can't actually see at night :)

With some decent fully-charged 2500mAh+ batteries it's enough for 10-15mph on easy trails on a moonless, cloudy night. I use mine a lot in late Spring/early Autumn when the twilight hours are longer.
