Should I change the tyres on my road bike to something that has a bit more grip for the winter? Currently using standard 700x23 tyres.

I don't mean to be facetious, but you only need to look halfway down this page to see a thread with nearly exactly the same request; a brief search might have revealed that this is one of the most discussed subjects here, recently.

Still, I'll restate what somebody else wrote there and say that it is more about durability – resistance to wear and punctures, than grip.
  • always a good idea, especially once the weather turns nastier
i plan to change mine within the next month....looking at something like this
