Hi,
Loooking for road bike that can be modifyied for cyclocross for my 9 year old. Seem's like there are 3 options Isla Luath £350, Dawes Espir 3000 £380, or Pro-Lite £600, What experience or advise does anyone have to offer on any of these or others i may have missed?

  • Value for money - Islabike, excellent resale value, get snapped up v quickly.

Prolite is lighter but not sure about value of paying that much extra.

    No experience of the Dawes

The Islabikes models are hard to beat, all designed with great attention to detail by a former Cyclocross national champion. They can even fit proper CX tyres when you order the bike. They've just introduced a 24" wheel version of the Luath drop-bar road/cross bike to add to the 26" and 700c models.

I admit I'm biased, there are three Islabikes in our garage. Having visited the shop twice I can't help but get the impression they just want to make great bikes that kids want to ride. Aesthetically the bikes win hands-down for me too.

£600 for a 9 year old's bike? Yikes! My 3-speed Raleigh racer with 20" wheels was £32... but things have changed a bit since then
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
  • Thanks for replies the Isla Luath 24 looks like the best having spoken with other parents who allowed him a test ride on the Luath. :D
