  • Local bike shop looking for someone?

If you live near where they publish the cycle mags, ask if you can do some work experience for free, in the hope that they'll see how wonderful you are and offer you a job sometime soon?

Do anything and keep riding, until you work out what you do want to do (this may never happen).

    Cycle courier?

Whatever, good luck with whatever you end up doing and, if you hate it, change it.

Go to University. It's far too much fun not to, and you have no idea what you want to do now, so take a few years of growing up in the real world to give yourself a chance to find out. This is best done at Uni where you don't have to get a dead end job to pay the rent and can pretend to be bettering yourself at the same time.

If you knew what you wanted to do with your life, and it didn't involve going to University, then fair enough, otherwise go.

    + 7 ...

I'd still agree with university though.

Of ocurse you may not have the qualifications, or know what to study

Better option - take a year to go round the world etc, work in some bars and restauarants, whatever, broaden your horizons a bit.

    Then decide.
You've got a lot of life in front of you, no need to be hasty now!

What about an apprenticeship, if you get a proper one you should get a HNC out of it, good technical background and an interesting job. Also they pay you to do it, and if your any good at it they'll put you through a degree part time, not debt, its a ball ache but you do get money in your pocket to spend on bikes. Which is cool, and no debt.

at said age of 32 that's what I'm planning on doing if any company will take on an old fart female apprentice in Marine Engineering. I'm hoping but have other options

  • Uhh yeahh, but getting into some job i don't ever wanna do, doing it a lot, and being stuck in that kinda crap is what i really want to avoid! I mean riding, thats my only refuge ^^ as long as i got good amount of time for that, it'll be good i guess. sick of people telling me to stay on at education, which really is a time burner, i hate it.

Oh right, you sound like someone who's going to get an ASBO, and live a life of crime then.

    Any proper interests?

Get some useful qualifications and you might get a useful job.

Perhaps join the Army, there's more than a few vacancies.

  • Go to university.

Do a course where the first year doesn't count. Drink and....erm...have fun. i can thoroughly recommend 2 day hangovers. Pick a city with good nightlife not some poncy uni. Don't go to bath, they are scum of the earth.

While at uni pray to god there will be a job after.
An alternative to this is to do a PhD in whatever you like. The Netherlands pays very well I can tell you (€29000 in the first year. €37k in the last + 42 days holiday a year.. Also the women...
Doctorates are also a nice doss giving plenty of time to... drink, buy stuff. Cycle and stuff like that.

Then get a good job instead of the peanuts you get for a job at 16/18 with no fancy letters after your name.

Trust me. the more fancy letters you have after your name, the more you get paid for less and less work.

You see the people working in cycle shops who have been there a while. You know, thousand yard stare and monosylabic grunting. You don;t want that.

As I said get an apprenticeship, you've money coming in, an apprenticeship is never dead end, the more skilled you get the more interesting it gets.

Plan B is get an apprenticeship if you like the job or not it gives you qualifications and experience, join a continental cycling club, cos you can afford to and someone over there will give you a job cos you've got a skill and become a pro cyclist.

Get your spotty girlfriend knocked up a few times then spend your life on the rock and roll, you can cycle to sign on.

a cycling club on the continent. Although I wouldn't worry too much about that unless you are actually any good at riding a bike.
