Mens Worlds Road Race - Vino almost....

For a couple of minutes yesterday I thought Vino was going to break away and win it. Could not stand it if he had, he makes my blood boil more than any other doper, he seems to think cycling owes him something. Go away and do something else, maybe on busy train track or something......Also if Basso had managed to win would have made me sick to my stomach. Especially after what has been a really positive season on the road for pro cycling....

Congrates to Evans. He managed to be aggresive for most of the season and deserves that title. You could not only see the pride in the mans face but some stress release! Got any from Lotto and maybe he'll win a TdeF?

You think the winners of the Giro and Vuelta are positive for cycling?

So if Valverde had won, you would have been happy? Millar?

Vino was never going to win. I think he knew he didn't have the legs so it was better to try an attack on the finish line to build up a lead, a buffer before the hills.
  • Agree with you about Vino. Drug fueled or not he was always an exciting rider but I think his time in the peloton is up. I certainly heard spectators booing him during the World's ITT and apparently he got more stick during the RR. I haven't seen such a reaction from roadside fans before apart from when LA got some abuse on the mountain stages in the Tour a few years back. It'll be interesting to see how Vino goes during a full season next year and how the spectating public view him as well. As human beings, we can be prone to having short memories when it suits sometimes.
And yes, congrats to Cuddles too.
Let's close our eyes and see what happens
  • Ive passed my views on Millar (should be banned for life) and as for Valv.Piti I would put him in the same bracket as Vino, Basso. Although not proven guilty 100%, come on we know its him, he knows its him ! Wish he'd be a man and say look fair one I'm sorry now i'll crawl away under a stone and never appear in pro cycling again.

Den Menchov - no judgement as yet. Simply because he keeps us all entertained with his suicidal style of racing spending most of it on the tarmac looking puzzled! Priceless.

    Valv.Piti - Although not proven guilty 100%

Really? I thought DNA was 100% accurate?
  • We'll have cheats every seaon, fair enough. But Armstrong come back, less high profile cheats, British cycling, some team dramas and good racing!

From a British pov with Cav doing his think and Wiggo looking skinny and dangerous on a mountain. Things are good, it's got people talking and interested in cycling. I'm no longer seen as the "skinny bloke who wears lyric on a weekend" at work. I'm now the "skinny bloke with wear lyric on a weekend...he must be fit.....yeah did you see the british lads in the tour?"

    +1

Also he(Astana) does have a lot of roadside fans (there were a number of Kazakh flags around the route) who have had little to cheer about of late. So a quick solo was probably for them. And also to show President Nazarbayev that the team are making an effort and are worth the investment.
  • So are you saying it was an attack for make benefit gloriuos nation of Kazakhstan, and for show off glorious calves to adoring world?

    Absolutely

If Nazarbayev was Prime Minister of GB you would have seen Millar up there in no guts no glory mode. Deffo.

  • I though Vino was attacking for make advantage of small counter attcak group for join in glorious 3-4 up group and claiming of victorious medals. Instead, was swallowed and spat out on climb like grinds of a gypsy's coffee.

I don’t understand the vehemence shown against Vino. He was caught (unlike a bunch of others), and did his time (unlike a bunch of others), and that should be it.

Although I’m no fan of Evans, it makes a nice change that a more all-round rider, who competes in both one-day events and in tours, and in events over the whole season, won the world championship. I think this makes him a more appropriate holder of the title ‘road race world champion’ than many other victors in recent years, who have too often been just sprinters.
