Tyre boots.

Having had a few splits the best tyre boot for emergencies I have found is a cut section from a fizzy drink bottle. You can cut them any size you like, de-burr them and they weigh nothing, take up hardly any space and do not bulge at all when inserted.

Any other suggestions ?

    Cut up an empty tooth paste tube.

    I used a length of electrical tape for a boot to get me the last 12 miles home a couple of months ago. I folded it upon itself a couple of times then stuck it inside the tyre. Worked fine :wink:

    duct tape... fixes anything.


    Hell I even once stuck the front 2' on a rowing eight with it and rowed it back to the boathouse!

    Toothpaste tube, wrapped with bit of duct tape so I have a choice of materials. Never had to use it mind.

    I've use a bit of polythene bag wrapped round the inner tube where the tyre is split to get me 30 miles home. It works well if you don't use extreme pressures and weighs very little. I used the bag I'd had my sandwiches in earlier in the day.

    I suppose duct tape will work (it always does :) ) as will toothpaste tube but who carries that round when you're out for the day? I would have thought the harder plastic of a drinks bottle would be likely to chafe a puncture in time.

    I'm using a small piece of crisp packet glued to the inside of the tyre...... have been for about 2 years now!
