Planning a trip to Penmachno this weekend. Anyone know if it's fully open at the moment?

Was there a week ago and did the full loop 2, didnt see any diversions or closures so asume it was 'fully open'
Fair bit of water on the trail when we went but nothing to worry about, might have dried up a bit since then as well.

    Enjoy :D

It's been dry up here now for over a week so if it stay's dry till the weekend it will be fine.

Saying that Penmachno does have it's own micro-climate

Last I heard is the trail was overgrown a bit. Not sure if it's been cleared.

The weather in Betws y Coed, in particular, is always weird.
I managed to go sledging there this winter at least 4 days after the snow had gone from anywhere else

Llanrwst is the same. The other half works there and it can be hoofing it down there but like a summers day in the costa del sol on the coast

  • I rode Penmachno a few weeks ago.

Was fairly overgrown in places, but nothing that would stop you riding, just means you get a few scratched on your legs from the thorns.

There was evidence of people clearing it though so it may be sorted by now.

As long as they don't close it to strim it :?

Weather looks OK for the weekend too. Last did Penmachno 3 years ago - I just can't wait to get on the trail :D

    Thanks for the responses

There's not really a vegetation problem, it all appears to have been forced/died back.

Cracking trail, if very exposed on one of the sections towards the end.

You know where Betws Y Coed is?

Penmachno is due south of there. Grid ref of Penmachno is SH 79-50. You will only need a 4 fig grid to find it.

Head up the A5 from Llangollen.

if you have a Navman, then you can center it on Betws y coed, then move the map screen by following the road, and tapping on where the trailhead is.
  • Thanks for the directions - had a great ride. Overshot the second loop, so had to go back to do it!

Second loop slightly overgrown but still fantastic. Met some nice people up there too.
