Sorry just a quick one, I have a pending 30 Mile race in Oct (my first race):

Q. is it better to use new tyres for a race, old ones that are broken in? or will it make no difference?

Thanks

  • there will be no significant difference offroad, but onroad ones that are broken in might be slightly better.
  • Joe thanks for taking the time to reply. It is a road race, current set up is GP4000 they are at their 2100mile mark, so not long left with them. With the absence of any further feed back it looks like I will keep my current tyres and change post race, Thanks again.

oh one thing why would broken in ones be better?

    Thanks

sorry im too late. i would have thought that a pair of tyres that are well worn wouldnt have the same amount of grip and would be more liable to puncture. id say a fresh pair of tyres is by far the best.

well i only know this when i got a piar of michelin carbon krylion tyres fitted the evening before a charity ride because the standard tyres weren't confidence inspiring in the wet.
  • Not too late Robert, and thanks; Did you ride faster?

well i tend to ride faster uphill than those who are downhill sprint specialists.
the tyres kept me upright in the heavy rain even when i hit the ditch on a downhill in a brain fade moment. as you know michelin krylion carbon tyres are training only.
