for beginners on the road you will not take you very well surprise the field, so it can calculate routes previously at http://www.googlebike.com/en.htm. I leave you here an example of a route from Edimburgh to livingston. You can create any route and see the profile and data

    Not compatible with Firefox! :o

    I hope Chrome works because I'm not installing IE.

    Wait, I'm confused. :? You have to install a Google Earth plug-in for either Chrome or IE instead of installing a plug-in for Google Earth?

    Installing IE? Go to windows explorer, type in a website, does a browser window come up? I uninstalled IE once and it was still there.

    In the example is it not saying you should cycle down the M8!? I find http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php works pretty well!

    It says its not compatible with firefox, however it still works ok on firefox, at least it does on my pc.

    not many really, it works on firefox, it's free, it auto follows roads err that's all I can think of. I'm not saying it is good/bad just an alternitive

    As I can see it's fiddly, the final graphics are crap and you can't click route points with any accuracy.

    The only "useful" thing I can see about it is that it gives you estimated slope % for the ride. However, it only works on routes less than 40km due to accuracy. So pretty pointless really.

    AS much as I was quite un-impressed, that final feature you mention might tell me what the average gradient is for the hill that killed me at the weekend!

    I think all it is doing is summing the climb and descent figures and dividing by distance. Any route site should give you those numbers so all you need to do is the final calc.

    Can I ask why this forum, Bike Radar continues to use the route plotter Bikely when 95% of the routes uploaded are outside the UK and 95% of the people that use this forum are from the UK?
