How flat can you get?

vueltaprofilestage2.jpg

Today's stage rendered in ASCII art:-

Assen |
| Emmen

Could be a pretty routine sprint stage, but there is apparently a section of cobbles near the finish and there is the possibility of rain.

Five men are currently in the breakaway - Fran Perez, Tom Leezer, David Garcia, Liuewe Westra and Dominik Roels. According to the official tickers they have almost 7 minutes with 104 km to go. Leezer is the first KOM leader, after conquering the first enormous climb of the year... a whopping 20 metres above sea level.

I'm going for Bennati or Boonen.

Just seen some photos from the Vuelta Colombia and it looks amazing. Nothing better than seeing a hufe amount of Colombians fighting it out on the hills:

Nice jersey and it is good he has ditched the ugly Oakley jawbones.

In other news, Pozzato wins the Giro Del Veneto in his customary style:

With his eye on the Worlds.

Vino still has the legs...looking a little odd in Astana kit.

Glad to see Pippo has ditched that horrendous jersey he was wearing at the Tour.

Live pictures now on Eurosport. Looks quite sunny. The cobbled section is apparently 1,500 metres long and comes 28 km from the finish.

64km to go - the five have 4mins and two QS on the front.

Westra's father died last week so he probably has some serious motivation.

Westra's fathers death is the reason for the black armbands on VS riders.

Gap down to 30secsonds. The peloton are hammering it.

20s, 12s, 8s time bonuses for the top three so Cancellara could lose his jersey.

Crash - ORTEGA. 2nd time today!

8% is the cut-off point. He needs to get back into the peloton sharpish.

A big bunch of riders taking a 'short-cut' through a bike path...yet it looks like it doesn't actually joine back on.

A pity they scrapped the great cobbles they have in that part of Holland, initially they were part of the route for the stage to Emmen:

Welcome to Holland. There are baffled Spaniards everywhere you look.

Cobbles section now - would have been scrapped if it was poor weather.

Can't cope when a big leadout train gets on the front. Gets pushed out of position too easily I reckon. You could see him in the final km sprinting just to get on Dean's wheel.

All his wins in Eneco were really messy with no trains.

    Sabatini in 2nd?!

Only the 2nd win in 2009 for Ciolek. His other win was Trofeo Calvia.

And what rubbish is that - it wasn't even Bennati in second. Very disappointing.
