Will this work...undecided on cassette as yet. 11-23 / 12-25.Do i definiely need the longer cage GS version.

    Assuming a 53/xx/30 crank and 12-25 cassette, it will be ok as long as you don't use a smaller sprocket than the 19 when on the 30 chainring. If you do the rear derailleur won't be able to take up all the slack in the chain.
