Which bike?

Hi, i'm new to road riding and i'm looking to get a bike for my daily commute 8 miles across London.

I'm taking part in Evans' Ride2Work and was going to go for a Bianchi Camaleonte II hybrid, but they have since discontinued the model.

I'd like some advice please... am I better off commuting on a hybird or road to commute on. I'm a bit worried about getting a sore back from being bent over on a road bike (but I may be wrong...).

I've got my eye on a couple but wondering if anyone has any opinions on them and ultimately, are they going to be good commuting bikes... I don't really want to spend much more than £550,

    If the bike is a proper fit you wont get a sore back with a road bike. With the correct bike your spine should be in neutral position and you'll be bending at the hips, which is natural.

    A "sportive" model may be more appropriate for comfort due to a more upright position

    +1. Get yourself properly fitted on the right sized bike, with the correct length stem and the correct saddle height.
    With regards to what type of bike, it's as broad as it's long. A hybrid is likely to be a bit more comfortable, but if you're only cycling 8 miles, it's not going to make a huge difference.

    I think at the moment it will probably just be the commute but I'd like to think that once I get into it, i'll be riding for fun at the weekend too.
