Changed my stem to a slab of Zipp carbon.

Stiffer honking up hills the result.

Noticed some play in my headset, loosened the stem bolts and tightened the top cap until play went away, retightend the stem bolts and the play came back! Not sure how i've managed that. Maybe I need to tighten the top screw more before I redo the stem bolts? Or something's knackered.

Next I need to redo my bar tape following a recent crash (involving a broken wrist )

Put new bar tape on (from (ex)white to silvery grey) and reversed/inverted the stem, so it looks a bit more racey. :)

I got out the needle and thread to restitch the pockets on my cheapy Aldi shirt.

    That's fettling, right?

Stuck on my Nitto track drops (B123s) to try them out tomorrow. Might as well start getting used to drop bars before my new bike arrives. Yes that was the most exciting thing i did on this Satruday night :(

Is fettling by proxy allowed? I dropped my bike off at the LBS today for its service and to have one of the handlebar spacers removed

Got to do the same to a finger on one of my Specialised FF gloves, love them. I did have a pair of hlaf finger(?) gloves but I lost one of the gloves in my Dads shed but found it again but now I've managed to lose one at home somehow

Replaced the inner tubes on two bikes, then fitted new tires to the CX and Road bikes, took the rear derailleur off my CX and cleaned all the muck off, removed chain and scrubbed silver again, changed battery in cycle computer and reset headset tension on the TT bike.

Finally got sick of a sticky rear brake, took it off the bike, dismantled, degreased and its like new again!

note: doing this in the garden isn't the best idea - those washers are pretty small and difficult to find on the lawn

When you stitch them up, i'd suggest some elastic through your cycle jersey arms too, so you don't lose them

Knew Mum's idea all those years ago wasn't a stupid one.

Going to get the babywipes out later before the GP starts and after the Aussie innings finish.

In wiping the frame found a chainring bolt loose so checked all four of them, luckily just 1/4 were loose.

Ohh, didn't realise that this is what this thread was about.

Well, the other day, for the fist time in nearly 25 years of tinkering with bikes I purchased a chain whip and cassette remover and ... took off my cassette and ... swapped it for another one.

Now I know how those racer boys get their sprockets so clean.

Fettled brakes (bit of tightening, bit of side-to-side adjusting)
    Lubed chain and rear mech.
    Pumped tyres.
Took a test ride down the road.
Brakes squealing (groaning) again, like after puncture on Friday but cured themselves with about five minutes' worth of riding with the brakes half on.

Finally got round to fitting a Kona KF front hanger to my Genesis Vapour. Judder seems to have gone and I can apply the brakes with gay abandon. Yay no more scary judder for me with any luck!

I see the 2010 edition of the vapour has a similar arrangement.

Be careful when you tighten the top screw as it's pre-loaded, so tightening it beyond a certain (not desperately tight-feeling) point will cause it to shear. At least, that's what happened to me :(

Just replaced the Avid canti on the front of my Kona with a Kore Race calipers. Way more adjustable and its killed all the judder and squeal issues I was having with the Avid one. Highly recommended to any CX canti user suffering from front brake squeal and fork judder.

I just fitted my bright Gelert head torch and a spare rear light off of my mountain bike onto my helmet.

I think they are on there secure enough but i'll only find out after a ride.

Only problem is they arent easy to take on and off...so they are on until I get a different solution, or a "day" helmet ;)

Killboy and I spent the eve bike building. His is 99.9% ready to go (just some small adjustments needed), mine is missing one vital part that halted proceedings at 3:30am.

First ride with my look pedals truely a revelation, spds are fine but don't offer anywhere near the leverage, i'm a convert.

First ride with my new Ti brakes & Dura Ace cabling mmmm stopping power-tastic

So far in my quest to go Ceramic & Ti i've dropped 1.5lbs from the weight of my standard Trek 1.7 and considerably more form my wallet

Some fettling in the future tense; my bottom bracket tool arrived today, and I am anticipating getting the BB itself tomorrow. Wish me luck, this will be the first time I've attempted this job.

I've bodged a tesco 3w c battery torch onto my Defy. Elastic bands, small part of an old inner tube, some pipe insulation foam and gaffer tape, plus a couple of strips of masking tape around the batteries to hold them secure in the torch, as they were rattling a little.

I took it for a ride down an unlit country lane a few minutes ago and it is plenty bright enough to do my country road commute - just have to work out how long the batteries will last and if it's worth getting a recharger and some C size rechargables - anyone got experience of this as i've only ever used AA rechargables before.

Thought the chain looked a bit grubby so gave it a wipe, then thought it needed a more thorough clean so split the power link to take it off completely and give it a proper clean & lube, then ended up with the front & rear mechs in a couple of takeaway tubs stripped down to their constituent parts, but at least they were all shiny & clean again by the time I'd finished. And then got the thin brush & Muck-Off round the cassette whilst I was it - so much for a quick wipe of the chain.

And then re-assemble / refit. Clean gears are better than oily gears.

Attempted to unseize the front mech on my mtb. Needs more work this morning. More front mech tuning on the commuter too.

Lowered the front mech as it was to high and played around with the low stop as since i put the new chain on it occasionally drops off when dropping to the small chain ring.

Washed and oiled the bike and intend to change the brake pads if i get chance today
