hey guys, i'm 15 nearly 6ft and about 8st in weight, i'm not particularly muscley because i've got hypertonia, so sometimes holding my bike down a fast track really wears me out yet i love doing it sooo much. I ride an EXXCEL OXYGEN and to be honest it's a nice bike it has TXS 500 shocks on the front (don't know if that's good :? lol) but has a really comfy seat,it's great for taking on the roads and for going through forest trails. It is however growing a little bit old.. stiffening up,and brakes, even new ones aren't 'good' y'know? has a used feel to it unfortunately :( i'm thinking abut getting a new bike for a thrash around and get filthy and stuff, the sort of thing i'm looking for is a fast bike (lol i'm 15 so testosterone brings out the junkie in me :D) but is also easy to control down slippery forest tracks and is comfy yet is an easy ride on road, basicaly a capable bike that does everything well haha i'm probably asking to much, but just to know at the moment i'm not worried about prices so you can name the most ridiculously priced bike out there, as long as it seems ok with my description i'm fine :D so..does anyone have any suggestions?, i am capable on a bike dispite first impressions..i don't look like much but i've always surprised people by my cotrol of bikes apparently i have a 'talent' for extreme situations on one lol but yer any suggestions are much appreciated :D many thanks, nath

Have a read of our What Bike thread in this section at the top - has a range of bikes at many prices (for general XC and trail riding).
  • i've had a look through but it won't mention most bikes there are available, and i like to keep an open mind on these things :D

Well you could spend £300, or £7000.

too many bikes to list/recommend with no budget, you need to set a budget for us to help you decide on a shortlist

Yeah, as Andy said we can't go through the 300 or so bikes that are on sale!

What have you seen that takes your fancy? Any features you want? Lightweight?
  • well as i metioned i suffer from hypertonia so i am limited, so lightweight and control is important to me, i actually had my eye on the LaPierre Spicy 516 in the listings looks awesome and sounds like a controlable multitalented (rather like myself 8) ) bike lol although probably WAY out of my price range, i would imagine under 1000 but as i say i'm open to over and unders

A hardtail of course would be quite a bit lighter and may suit your condition better. Have you had a look at the Boarman bikes at Halfords? Inc the full sussers?
  • no.. i was wondering would halfrauds let you take test ride possibly? if you had a cherry on top of the please? to be honest i'm an awkward one i like extreme stuff, like if i see a possible jump i'll go for it, yet i like comfy coasting in peace :S it's weird so it's awkward to find a similar bike y'know?

All rounders will always be a little heavier. But anything will be lighter than what you have!

What are your local shops like? What brands do they stock?
  • to be honest i don't really know, i'm quite new to the bike world but have got stuck in it :D they are quite modern though, disc brakes, but i do't know how modern that is :/

You need to shortlist 3 or 4 and go and see them. Aounds liek you want a full suspension bike than can take a bit of stick. A Giant Trance X5?
  • lol i don't really know haha i like adreneline rishes a LOT and pace and speed and danger in a forest trail, yet when i want to calm down and cycle properly on the roads i like to just have a ride not a thrash. y'know?
  • i appreciate th help guys and i'm sorry for being an awkward bugger :? i'm probs tucking in now i might be on l8er 2night but probs not nyways thanks and bye for now!

  • wow! looks nice, what is it? lol obviously a bike :D wat make and model? looks nice :D
  • Hi...
Nah don't worry about being awkward, asking question is good, :D

    anyway here's my suggestions

Commençal Meta 5, that will let you play around with the trail and have fun with it! which is what it sorta sounds like you want to do...to me at least :) and if you can wait 'till next years models hit the stores then you can get a carbon version, which is even lighter.

    http://www.commencal.co.uk/

A giant Trance X5 sounds like a good option as well, and again if you can wait 'till next year you can get even lighter (carbon) versions of it  :D

Also the Scott Genius, that's a pretty adaptable (+ light bike for the amount of travel it's got!), especially with it's travel adjust thingy :D

A cool (In my opinion) brand of bikes is Cube, from Germany...I know that at least in Australian dollars, their bikes are pretty good value considering the build spec! ( I know that's my next bike to replace my XC hardtail :D I'm gonna get the Sting Super! :D:D...but anyway...) they've also got floating shocks (which is good) as well as nice light frames + good reviews...

Banshee Bikes are another brand that you might like to have a look into...a small rider owned Canadian company thatI've heard pretty good things about:

    http://www.bansheebikes.com/

If you've got money, bikes from Santa Cruz like the Blur LT (now in purty-purty-carbon! :P :D )
    http://www.santacruzmtb.com/home/

also Pivot bikes, a fairly new brand boasting the glorious DW link-http://www.pivotcycles.com/bikes.php

also Iron Horse boast it as well : http://www.ironhorsebikes.com/bikes/bikes-2009.php

ummm...who else...BH seriously beautiful!!!! bikes, undeniably sexy!!! but hard as to find review on, but seriously light for aluminium frames!!! : http://www.bhbikes.com/en/catalogo/2009 ... ension.htm
