It's a very sad thing indeed for the pensioner and thier family. This like other traffic offences that end in death due to utterly avoidable circumstances, seems to be a light sentence for a life.

Has anyone posted a link to this in the RLJer got nicked thread?

The weird thing about this is that was well as being jailed he was banned from driving for a year - For something he did on a bicycle and the charge he was convicted of was wanton and furious driving - I can see him getting off on appeal as driving was always related to control over a horse or team of horses it became extened to motor vehicles once thay came along. Since he wasn't driving his bicycle, however badly he was riding, he wasn't driving.

I did read a long while back that there had been an arrest in Weymouth over a pavement cyclist. I really am glad he got a prison sentence, its just a shame it doesnt quite reflect the severity of his actions. :?

Poor old sod, going like that. :(

EDIT: perhaps the laws need sorting out, throw away the chaff and bring in a law about "lack of care in charge of a veihcle" and "using a vehicle in a dangerous or lethal manner" ??

Sad to hear of that - stupid fecker.

@Neilk - I am guessing that there were going with the idea that he couldn't control himself on a bike therefore likely he wouldn't be so hot behind the wheel of car either.

What I suspect will unfortunately happen is his year ban will start now and thus it will only affect him for the 5 months he is out.

"This case clearly highlights the dangers of riding a cycle on a pavement."

No it doesn't, it highlights the dangers of cycling like a f****** moron.

True but he's making a point to try and dissuade the plebs.

It says he admitted the offence. That's going to make it hard to appeal the verdict.

Think that it is the driving ban being referred to.

Hall, of Weymouth, pleaded guilty to the 19th Century offence of wanton and furious driving causing bodily harm.

Seems not, he admitted the driving charge.

Is admitting the charge not the same as pleading guilty to it

There are lots of spaces shared with pedestrians, and they are only going to increase. This could happen where the cyclist was legally present, other than on a pavement.

This shows not to be a moron.

    True, generally.

However, in this specific case he was riding like a moron.

If it had been me, I would be wrecked with guilt.
Maybe he is suffering more than we know and should lay off.
Sympathies however are with the deceased family.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
