no it is a pile of crap.

HOW is anyone meant to make any make a comment on a post like that?

have a look on the net and see what price they sell for.

    As suggested in the rules.

    thanks and welcome.

well this seller seems to think so - no bids yet, but a £500 starting price and reserve not met

have you seen the bike and tried it? has it been serviced and looked after? do you feel like it's worth £500?

it's a lot of bike for the money I guess, you won't get anything like that new for that money that's for sure!
  • Im gonna look on mon so ill let u know and thats the bike lol im seeing his mum ....

One thing's for cetain, the swingarm bearings are pretty much bulletproof on those things.

And I'm guessing, based on what I've been asked whenever I needed new bearings, that if you just claim to be the original owner, a marin shop will give them to you for free.
At least, they've never asked for any kind of original owner proof from me.
  • Thats encourageing but do u think its worth the money being 5 yrs old?

If in good condition, and it fits, it could be worth a flutter. Can you see it in the flesh?

Oh, no text talk please ;-). (ie 'u').
  • Yeah test ridin mon :)

if it's in good nick, you'd struggle to get a better bike for 500 quid.
  • What should i look for? fault wise?

Actually, "struggle" might be putting it kindly! I've had several people offer me more than that for my original wolf-ridge which is older

The usual things. Check for frame damage such as cracks, particularly around inportant junctions like the head tube, BB area, pivot mounts, swingarm crossmembers etc.
If you intend on spending no extra money, then also check for play in the headset, forks, wheel bearings, suspension, cranks, etc.

Make sure that any adjustments on offer on the suspension units work, check if the wheels are true, or at least close.

All standard stuff really, I've never heard of a particular common fault on these frames.
Never heard of a fault, actually.

    EDIT
as for fragility - I think that's a bit of a common misunderstanding.
My old one (see sig) was massively overbuilt, and a bit heavy, but could take as much abuse as some DH bikes of the time. As things became more specialised, bike frames started shedding weight rather noticeably, and lost a little resilience with it.
So when you hear people say those frames are a bit fragile, I believe it's because they're expecting them to put up with the same amount of brutality as the original wolf-ridge / attack trail bikes - even though they weigh about a third less!
That's my opinion, anyway. I've never heard of one breaking under anything that could be considered normal use.
  • Grt info thx a lot guys youve all been very helpful bar one lol

    THX

ARGH! you should have told the guy in the bike shop it was yours from new - that way you'd have got free pivot bearings forever.
  • That was in the normal shop ,then i went across to the workshop side they dont know and what do you mean??

Sorry, I gues I should have explained. Unlike (it appears) EVERY other bike manufacturer, the swingarm bearings on marins are guaranteed for life. However, I believe this only applies to the original owner.

I've never been asked if I was the original owner all 3 or 4 times I've needed bearings replaceing (in 11 years :D ) but I've been led to believe some shops will ask.
Obviously, you don;t have proof of original purchase etc, so just to be on the safe side, I'd get comfortable talking about it as though you've had it for several years!
  • Well after reading reviews of there customer service i may be takeing it to Nigel at Wilsons cycles instead i trust his workmanship completely

Yes, original owner and at a registered Marin dealer.

I think it is very good.
