I'm thinking about getting one of these two

http://www.boardmanbikes.com/hybrid/hybrid_pro.html
http://fisherbikes.com/bike/model/mendota

Both similar bikes similar price, but I just cant decide

I will only be riding on tarmac

Any suggestions, advice, experience

Cheers

The boardman has hydraulic discs, the fisher has mechanical.

Assuming the rest of the spec is the same, the hycraulic would win hands down for me.

The fisher will clearly be more exclusive and unusual though, and I personally prefer the look of.

    Dan
    Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
    Scott CR1 SL 12
    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18

I think I am now swaying towards the Fisher as I have seen some reviews of the Boardman saying that the Avid Elixir are too powerful on the rear and causing some vibrations and noise.
So wondered if anyone on here had a Boardman and could comment

Disc brakes on a "tarmac use" bike are a waste of money and add pointless weight. So I'd say neither, but you should try before you buy.

Also the Mendota is outrageously expensive!

One thing to bear in mind is that with the way the rear brake is fitted on the mendota you can fit a rack, not sure if you can with the boardman. Thats if you're into racks...

I use last years Mendota & with two fully loaded panniers and am perfectly confident in the BB5s.

Jesus why bother buying a hybrid - waste of money, 1p on a hybrid is already too expensive.

4 laws of cycling on the roads:

If it hasn't got hoods it is not worth riding on the road
If it has tyres widder than 25mm then you should be either in a forest or a singletrack
Racks are complete FAIL unless you are travelling for 100 milers and beyond
Disc brakes are for mountain bikes

Commuting / Winter rides - Jamis Renegade Expert
Pootling / Offroad - All-City Macho Man Disc
    Fast rides Cannondale SuperSix Ultegra

    Hybrid Fail. Sorry, not helpful.

  • I have the Boardman Pro Hybrid and I'm really happy with it. I haven't had it very long (around 140 miles so far) but there have been no issues so far with it.

I chose a Hybrid because I find Road bikes uncomfortable, I was going to go for a more off-road biased model, but as most I my riding will be in London I opted for the more road biased bike.

I really enjoy riding it, and that's the point, isn't it?

Yeah, I know, I wasn't whining (although I admit it does read like that!)

  • Hey Fishcake,

Tell me you got the Mendota !?!

Had mine for a month now and giving a good thrashing most days - love this bike!

Its fast enough to keep most happy, tough enough to outclass the wimpy 2gram racers on rubbish roads and cool enough to have everyone asking what your bike is.....

    What did you settle on?
