Shame after he showed winning that stage meant so much to him. Euskatel will have no riders left at this rate

Maybe 8 years with no wins was just too much for him. Not good news - the emotion on that win was great.

Caught by a Spanish lab too. How long before he claims 'political motivation' as a reason?

On the 28th of June he rode: National Championships Spain (Comillas - Cueva El Soplao) R.R.

Maybe he was desperate for the jersey.

He got third. Rubén Plaza won riding for Liberty Seguros.

For info, he rode with AG2R from 2002 to 2006 and has only been riding with Euskaltel for the last three years.

Ah well. Bit of a shame. I enjoyed his stage win above all the others. The release of raw emotion of pent up career frustration.

    I feel sorry for him.

Looks like it was from a test on June 26th, not that it makes much difference.

it may however provide some clues to the testing timescale. If it takes 5 weeks from taking the sample to announcing the positive then the first tour results should be announced next week.....

The entire team are sailing close to the wind, too many positives in recent years.

It's not always the same but I believe all the Tour stuff would be analysed by the end of this week. LNDD closes tomorrow for a month so it has to be really.

    Oh, ffs. :x

Euskaltel are one of my favourite teams, and I was under the impression that Iban Mayo had left them because of their anti-doping charter. I really hope there is no systematic cheating going on in that team, and the two recent ones have just been acting independently.

I'm glad cycling is weeding out the cheats, but it makes you wonder, why bother follow this sport (or any other) when the ones you were cheering turn out to do it with chemical assistance.
