Are they any good road bikes at that price point ? I have posted a few times looking for asecod hand one without a single reply, It seems second hand road bikes, even on ebay, for someone as tall as me are pretty rare.

New bike wise:

I can find either a

Fuji Newest 3.0 2009

Or

Specialized Allez 16 2010

But are either actually any good for me ? something else ?

I'm in the same position as you and about to purchase on the same budget, less if I can get away with and I have been through all sorts of recommendations.
The best advice that seems to be appearing in everything I have researched is that everyone is different and go with something that feels right for you.In other words go with what feels comfortable.
You can get too caught up on spec etc.
I am leaning towards Giant and their Defy range of bikes. The Defy 4.
For slightly over your budget you can get the defy 3. Both excellent starter road bikes which incorporate parts from their top end spec bikes.
The other important matter is that I can upgrade parts as I feel I need to.
They are a cool looking bike.
Good luck and hope you find something that suits YOU!
  • Have you tried winstanleys? They tend to have decent bikes reduced well in larger or smaller sizes. Its worth a pop for what you want to spend.
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

Try second-hand. You can get a really good bike for £500 second hand.

Any new one you buy for this much, you'll want to start upgrading pretty quickly.

Second hand is a great option. If you know what you are looking for, and are prepared to be patient, it will come up eventually.

The Vitus sounds like a good option for £450.

The Allez is a good frame for later upgrades, but in the end, you need a bike that fits you and suits your needs

personally i go where i can get the deals. Hence i ride a CB Milano 2009 for £479. Sure there's better bikes but they come with better price tags to suit too

But on a more personal note i admire your desire to and weight loss record and the discipline which i think is exceptional. Brilliantly well done.

Wow Nice find, I offered upto £450 for a 58cm on the for sale section but got nowhere, seems the bigger sizes are harder to come by, I ended up buying a new one.

GB155, I'd just like to say (after reading some of your blog) "Bloody good work". You've shown real motivation and commitment to losing weight and it should be an inspiration to all those that complain they are too fat to lose weight.

Sorry, you can have your thread back now. :D
