    Ah, nice one! I had heard of them forming above launch sites, but not drifting away from them.

    New Scientist 2715 page 6 carried an article with details that explosions in the upper atmophere injected water vapour in the Thermosphere 90-500km where high speed winds carried the water vapour around . The space shuttle and explosions such as the Tunguska event were linked to these cloud formations.
    I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

    Makes sense if you think about how fast they go. Our uni astronomical society were out at the observatory on the night of the last launch, they managed to see the external fuel tank detaching.
