I used to rule the world,
Cyclists jumped when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
With my 4 kids in the ranch I own……

I used to pump my thighs,
See the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Now I listen to Alberto sing,
“The old king is dead, long live the king”,
High cadence that was the key
But I’m older now, you see
And I’ve just got to hold up my hands
To my legions of fans, all of my fans.

I hear Dave Walsh and his constant bleating,
Always saying that I was cheating,
The AFLD forever callin’
Who can blame me for shower stallin?
They just don’t know what my life’s like
I wish they’d all go and take a hike,
Not a dishonest word,
That was when I ruled the world.

It was the wicked and nasty climb
To Verbier made up my mind
To race for LiveStrong, Bruyneel and the team
People couldn’t believe what they were seeing,
You know it could be worse
‘Cos I’m still huge in the Twitterverse
I am a cyclist, amongst other things,
Oh…who would ever want to be king?

I read the papers, the chat room forums,
Full of idiots and of morons,
The fanboys, haters and all the rest
Know I’ve never failed a single drug test,
But even though it’s positively true
For some reason that don’t get through
So you can believe what you like,
‘Cos I’m a guy who can’t half ride a bike……..
