The Motion Control is a low speed compression adjustment which allows you to
control bobbing of the fork, how much the fork should dive under braking, how much
sensitive to be on small bumps, etc...
I think it was that. Good stuff.

    About the floodgate:

Lockout blowoff or threshold - Most forks have a hydraulic lockout which will 'blow off' under a big enough impact before returning to its locked state. The threshold of this lockout can be adjusted on some forks ie Floodgate.
So having internal floodgate it's like not having it at all, you have to open the fork to adjust that.
But you decide if you need that gadget too.

    And sorry coudn't find a 2008 Revelation U-turn.

The internal floodgate is adjusted with a 2mm allen key. This lives under a blue cap on the top of the right leg. So you don't need to take the fork apart to adjust it. The external floodgate had a dial on top of the leg instead of the removable cap.

Thanks for clearing that. I feel like a muppet now.
Btw, they shouldn't call it internal, because it was not really inside the fork.

I only know cos I've got the Reba SLs :D

The allen key is part of the rebound adjust knob, on the bottom of the right leg, you pull it out from the bottom of the leg and use it to adjust the floodgate at top, then clip it back into the bottom of the leg - cool!
  • So far i've mainly been lookin @ RS: SHould i be considering others? fox and DT swiss are generally out of my price range, but i don't know about marzocchi and manitou?
Also, will the feel and/or strength of TORA RACE be any different to that of TORA SL?

Will the year of the fork make much difference? would these be OK?

tora race has steel upper tubes, the recons, alloy

    steel, stiffer

    alloy lighter

my tora race, is stiffer, stronger and lighter then my old XCR's
Giant Trance X0 (08) Reverb, Hope Hoops 5.1D, XT brakes, RQ BC, Works Components headset 1.5
  • any wieght, feel or strrength differrences between tora race or 318?

about the same, oops, 318 are coils, so few more grams!

i was worried about 2 weeks ago about er, how stiff it would be, or a lack of stiffness

    dont be

i have ridden a bike with reba team forks 08, and tbh, they were the same, just much lighter and more £££

biggest diffrence is what you cant see, the race has motion damping, which is worth more the saving weight or having a stiffer fork ( to a certain extent)

with the XCR's you would get a lot of energy, rebounding up thru the front, felt like you were going really fast ( off road that is) so would brake a bit, to calm it down

now, its all a bit smoother, feels slower, so you go faster, still need to brake a bit for the corners tho!

  • these are the "few" i've narrowed it down too.....

now thats CRcycles out oThe others are: RS 09revalations uturn poplock, RS reba race and reba S L - the race are about 30 more than the S L.
RS tora race (thanks Xtreem!)) it would be fairly easy to say the BEST fork here... but im poor (LOL) and mopney and savings etc are a big issue 4 me. revelations are around £325, the Reba sl 250, and thereba race 280. The best savings here (i think) are tora race, manitou drake, and the rebas, but im not sure about rhe drakes reliability( heard problems with manitou, and couldn'y find any reviews) and the reba and tora race.... well , i didn't know if they'd be suitible for more agressive trails and a bit of AM.

( sorry about the huaoge list, but hoping to order within next 2 weeks )
    thx peeps :)

I'd go for a pair of these:
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=30264

    and a set of these:

If it were my money upgrading that bike - both strong, functional and not too heavy. You might be able to get the wheels cheaper than that I havent looked too far.

have you checked out merlin for their forks

i don't know what the difference is betweeen the SL and the 351 is but for £100 less than thats not bad

  • Hmmmmm.......... mx pro........
My first thought is how much of a difference they'd make. i don't want dead pricey stuff, but i do want to make a fair improvement. wheels look good, but i think ill start thinking about wheels after i've done with the forks. thxas for the recon S L, i would prob get them, but ( rather annoyingly ) they are sold out - it says so just above the prices !

    thx anyway = )
  • RockShox Rockshox Recon 351 U-Turn + Pop 07 - - £195.73
or Manitou drake super air absoloute £225.00?

two i has KINDA decided on..... but not certain.... the others were either white (oh, cmon i can't be the only one!), or really xc orientated.
