I'm starting to do some long ride and my rear is starting to kill. Do padded shorts work at all?

Also I wear big beefy old trainers, does anyone recommend anything to look out for in shoes. Need to get some, just got normal pedals so dont want ones that clip in.

Not sure if padded shorts do or don;t work as I've only ridden with padded liners on.

As for shoes, take a look at the Shimano MP66, skate style MTB shoe, nice and stiff sole. They come with the option for attaching clips if you chose to go down that route in the end but you can use them without.

Padded shorts are a must! Either lycra cycling shorts (padded) under some casual shorts (please) or shorts with padded liners...you'll never look back :)
