How do I fix a noisy Shimano Hollotech II BB

My Shimano Hollotech II is incredibly noisy
Its not my pedals, cleats or shoes. (tried different ones)
It alway creaks when the left hand crank is at the bottom.
I'm guessing its the BB/Chank
I dont know if its easy to fix.
I'm thinking just an extraction strip + clean + replace might fix it.
Will this be any good?
Or might this be more perminant damage, needing replacement?
What tools will I need to do this? (I only have the tools for the old stle BB)
thx

You need the HT2 tool, quite cheap on ebay.
Remove the crank and BB cups, clean everything,
Check the BB bearings by hand, they should be smooth and slightly stiff to turn.
Grease the BB threads and do up very tight.
Grease the shoulders on the axle where it sits in the bearings.
Grease the clamp area for the L/H crank to the axle and do up bolts to correct torque.
Remember the BB cups screw in different directions.
Certainly worth a tryHe is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -
Superb TopDude - thx
I'll give it a go
being pessimistic, if the bearings are shot, can I replace just the left hand side, or do I have to buy a whole new BB or even a whole new crankset?
which ever way round I guess I'll need a HT2 tool
